A lector is lay person instituted to proclaim the readings from Sacred Scripture, with the exception of the Gospel. They may also announce the intentions for the Universal Prayer and, in the absence of a psalmist, recite the Psalm between the readings.

St. Anthony Church Lecotrs are practicing Catholics, in good standing with the Church, members of the parish community, and possess a love of the Scriptures. Our readers can begin as early as 6th grade. Readers under the age of 18 must have a signed parent agreement which is available at training. Lectors must be punctual, responsible, and flexible with scheduling, and willing to take training classes at St. Anthony Church.

Commitment Requirements

Lectors are usually scheduled to read at Mass at least once a month, usually at the Mass they normally attend.  If lectors are unable to read at their scheduled Mass, they are required to seek another suitable lector to take their place.  Lectors are expected to arrive no less that 15 minutes before mass.  Lectors may be asked to read at funerals or special celebrations throughout the year.

For more information please contact the parish office or the Director of Liturgy.
