Author Rudolf Steiner believed and taught that Jesus was and ordinary man until at the age of thirty, when he received the Christ-Essence during his baptism. Can you please tell me what the Catholic Church teaches concerning this? It has always been my belief that Christ was fully human and fully divine throughout his whole life, even as a child. Not just and ordinary man. Would this be considered heresy for someone to teach that Christ was just an ordinary man until the age of thirty when he received the Christ-essence? I realize that Rudolf Steiner is a New age teacher who teaches reincarnation. The reason I ask is that my brother is in to Rudolf Steiner. I myself am a conservative Catholic. Thank you for your time. |

The Catholic Church has always maintained that Jesus was both fully human & fully divine. While the earthly Jesus was fully human, and subject to all human limitations except sin, his divine nature was always a part of him. It fully manifested itself again with his resurrection. I hope this helps. Heresy is a term for those within a certain religion who teaches in defiance of that religion's creed. Since this Rudolf Steiner is not a Catholic, he cannot be teaching heresy, per se. I would be interested in learning the basis for his belief so I could address it. It sounds like someone's personal opinion, not something based on scholarly research of scripture and theology, or even history. |
